The challenge

Modern mobile and web applications used JSON, while multiple backend systems consumed and returned XML messages. Differences in payload structures and data formats created integration challenges and required reliable bidirectional transformation.

The architecture

Implemented a centralized transformation framework using IBM API Connect and IBM DataPower with XSLT-based JSON-to-XML and XML-to-JSON transformations. Added data mapping, schema validation and error handling within the API assembly flow.

The verified impact

Enabled seamless communication between modern applications and legacy systems, reduced backend processing dependency, improved maintainability and accelerated onboarding of new APIs and channels through a centralized transformation layer.
